Tufts Hillel to Haiti

May 20, 2013 - May 28, 2013

Partner: Tufts University Hillel Foundation

Applying nearly a century of relief expertise as the world’s largest Jewish humanitarian assistance organization, JDC mobilized within hours of the tragic January 2010 earthquake in Haiti and has raised some $8.6 million dollars to help the survivors rebuild their lives. Within 48 hours, JDC allocated initial emergency relief funds and soon thereafter a scoping team of JDC professionals was on the ground.

In the years following the earthquake, JDC developed local partnerships with aid and development organizations, working to strengthen Haiti through initiatives in education, clean water, health and leadership training.

In Haiti, Tufts University students will include volunteer alongside JDC initiatives and learn about Haiti’s history, development needs, and programs that are helping address humanitarian issues in Haiti and around the world.

Today we woke up bright and early at our beautiful hotel in Jacmel and after a delicious breakfast we checked out and started on our way to Bassin Bleu. I did not know what to expect from the site, all I knew is that we would be swimming. We drove...

Hello from Haiti! Once again we woke up, had a pretty great breakfast (today we found cold milk) and headed to zoranje. I've recently discovered an obsession with Haitian mangos, and made sure to make a mess during breakfast. Driving in Haiti seems to always be experience; between the beautiful...

Today was the day we had been waiting for; the promised highlight was that we got to visit a middle school classroom and the kindergarten at the Ecole Nouvelle in Zoranje, Haiti (the amphitheater we are working on is directly adjacent to the school, in between the school and the...
